Sustainability
Since Shalina Resources in 2002 acquired its first mining rights at the Etoile Mine, the Company has been committed to making a positive impact on the communities in the country as a whole and, in particular in Katanga Province.
The Company is committed to meeting international best standards in the environment, employee health & safety, community development and local infrastructure projects.
Shalina Resources is committed to creating value within the DRC, in line with the Government’s long-term ambitions. By this commitment, the Company makes a difference to local communities through job creation, skills transfer, attracting investment and the multiplier effects of improved housing and the local purchase of goods and services.
At its mining and processing operations, Shalina regularly funds local infrastructure projects (e.g. roads, bridges and power lines). Through the Shalina Foundation, Shalina Resources also funds schools, hospitals and local businesses as well as the ‘not for profit’ Shalina Eye Clinic in Lubumbashi, which is the most successful eye clinic in Katanga province.
The environment is of extreme importance to Shalina Resources, and currently the Company has in place comprehensive water conservation, land protection, and emissions reduction programmes.
