Kimwehulu

The Kimwehulu project is located near to the Company’s Makala exploration project in the Kolwezi area on licence PE 2756. It is situated 12km NE of Kolwezi. It is a copper-only zone of mineralisation on the top of a hill.

Exploration at Kimwehulu

Preliminary geochemical prospecting delineated three copper anomalous zones. The hill block has been explored by close geochemical grid survey, which has indicated anomalies variously spread over the hill.

Drilling was carried out in 12 holes involving 910.10 meters: these confirmed the presence of a 25m-thick ore zone from hilltop surface. The preliminary resource estimation based on available data indicated 3.46 million tonnes at an average grade of 0.86% Cu. Further infill verification drilling programme is planned. There are two remaining anomalies that are yet to be drilled for detailed exploration and characterization of a potential ore body.

While the hill structure of the body makes for simple mining, the resource is currently low. However, there are high-grade sections that are likely to be mineable on a hub-and-spoke model if trucked to a central HMS (at Makala, for instance).

Shalina Resources is undertaking modelling work to test various pit designes to see if a high-grade pit can be optimised on a reduced tonnage.
