Processing Plants
Co Precipitation Plant
| Location | Usoke Ave, Lubumbashi, DRC |
| Input Capacity | 365,000 tpa |
| Production Capacity | 3,000 tpa Cobalt Carbonate |
The cobalt is treated alongside the copper until final recovery where ph modification by lime slurry is used to precipitate the metal into cobalt carbonate/hydroxide.
The cobalt plant currently produces 2,400tpa of cobalt carbonate. The plant has significant spare capacity and is expected to produce 3000tpa when feed from the planned concentrator comes on stream.
Furthermore, Shalina Resources is in the process of constructing a new Cobalt electro-winning (EW) plant that has been developed in-house. This will produce cobalt in metal form.
Commissioning is likely to take place in end 2013.
Current production at a successful pilot Co EW plant is approximately 50 tpa with 99.9% grade cobalt cathode product.
